How to Choose a Name for Your Rabbit

  • Look Into Other Languages: If you’re looking for a less commonly-used bunny name (or perhaps one that reflects your own cultural heritage, consider looking far and wide for names from other languages. Heck, even different translations of the word “rabbit” or “bunny” can make for awesome names, even if they are technically redundant. For example, there’s:
    Usagi (Japanese)

    Lapinou (French)

    Conejito (Spanish)

    Coinín (Irish)

    Tokki (Korean)

  • Consider Names Based On Physical Characteristics: We already touched on color (and how color-based names can be helpful as recognition tools if you’ve got a lot of buns), but don’t forget to take things like size and other physical features into account. What’s cuter than a big bun named Goliath, or a teeny-tiny bunny named Pipsqueak?
  • Let Their Personality Clue You In: Like any other animal, bunnies all have their own unique personalities, and observing your bun’s behavior can help clue you in on their overall “vibe” and help you come up with some fitting names. It helps that some of the commonly used names for certain bunny behaviors are pretty darn cute in their own right. For instance, there’s:
Binkying: When a happy or excited rabbit leaps high into the air while twisting their body in an expression of pure joy and enthusiasm. A binkying rabbit is a very happy rabbit!

Flopping: What it says on the tin. Despite the “bunny flop” often appearing quite dramatic to their owners, it’s actually a sign that the rabbit in question is totally content and relaxed!

Thumping: Angry or upset bunnies will sometimes stomp their hind legs hard on the ground to make a “thumping” sound, warning whoever or whatever’s bothering them to back off. Bambi’s “Thumper” must have had quite the attitude to earn his name!
