When an animal reaches a certain age, they earn the right to do whatever they want. Of course, their human’s main job is to keep them safe, healthy, and happy, but if happiness includes an extra treat and a daring ‘escape’ from the open front door, so be it!
Equestrian @maryhomiczgier is no stranger to caring for older animals. Her rescued Arabian horse, Chief, is a sprightly 42-year-old!
Despite his advanced age, Chief never fails to keep Mary and her followers on their toes with his antics. On July 7, he was caught teasing Mary just like a sibling, and it’s impossible to resist!
@maryhomiczgier There’s a difference between malicious intent and playing. 20 + years together and he knows, he’s gentle and teasing like a sibling. If he becomes too harsh, we communicate and he adjusts. He also knows when a little one, or someone full of nervousness is near, and again, adjusts. He’s an intelligent old man. But once upon a time he didn’t know how after years of severe abuse. It took years for him to reach the point of playfully misbehaving without fear. And yes, he knows the difference between skin and clothing. He finicks around with coats and things. – – – – – – – – – – #oldhorse #seniorhorse #horses #morgan #arabian #cowgirl #equestrian #agriculture #farmlife #farmanimals
I could watch this silly horse ‘misbehave’ all day long! He looks like he’s having so much fun, and that mischievous twinkle in his eye has me smiling from ear to ear. As one commenter cleverly wrote, “Some might say he’s even just..horsing around!”
This senior horse‘s silly antics may be funny on the surface, but it’s also incredibly heartwarming to see how he’s blossomed in Mary’s care. He used to be mistreated for ‘misbehaving’ like this, but now he can be the playful and sassy stallion he was always meant to be.
I couldn’t agree more with another commenter who said, “I love when senior animals be ‘bad.'” They’ve earned every minute of mischief! My family’s senior rescue dog has recently discovered how fun it is to unravel the toilet paper roll and drag it throughout the house, and even though it’s a hassle to clean up, we all secretly love it.
“I’m sorry, if I am a horse and live to 42 no one can tell me what to do.” This commenter knows what they’re talking about! Chief gets to make his own rules now that he’s in his golden years, but it’s safe to say that this senior horse isn’t slowing down one bit.

Chief is such a character! It breaks my heart to think of him being anything but his happy, silly self, but now that he’s been with Mary for over 20 years, this rescued horse never has to worry about being mistreated again.
Now this is a Happily Ever After!
