Adjusting to life with a new younger sibling is never an easy task. There are certainly all kinds of growing pains to be endured when taking on the role of older sibling while making room for a young one in your life.
However, Duke, the Alaskan Malamute, seems to have the whole big brother thing down pat. As you can see from this adorable video, it was a big adjustment for him to get used to having a young puppy in the house.
But in spite of the newness of it all and the challenges this presented him with, Duke more than rose to the occasion because he is such an exceptionally loving dog.
Interestingly, when Duke’s parents first brought home his new baby sister, a cute as can be fluffy white puppy named Odesa, he was actually a little afraid of her.
This was both cute and funny because Duke, being an Alaskan Malamute, is obviously a very big dog. So, why would he be afraid of such a tiny puppy?
All the more interesting is that this video notes that Duke was never scared around anyone or anything, prior to meeting Odesa for the first time.

Eventually, Duke became very calm around Odesa. And then he started to become very excited around her, getting the zoomies, and wanting to play with her. However, she was still very small and didn’t quite understand what was going on.
But eventually, as time passed, they started to form a bond. Odesa has since unleashed all of her young puppy energy on her big brother. From treating his tail like a chew toy to chewing on his face, she soon realized that she could indeed play with her older brother.
But don’t be fooled, Duke plays with her, too. They will share chew toys, and if Odesa gets to be too much, Duke will growl at her, warning her to respect his boundaries. They also enjoy just lying by each other’s side and taking it easy.
What makes this relationship between Duke and Odesa all the more precious is that Duke has struggled with finding suitable canine companions.
As the other video notes, because of his immense size, Duke has been attacked by off-leash dogs on multiple occasions. According to the video, Duke didn’t do anything wrong in these instances.
The other dogs simply attacked him because he was big. But now, Duke finally has someone who understands him, even if she kind of terrorizes his tail a little bit, LOL.
But nonetheless, the bond between Duke and his baby sister is a precious one that he will likely savor for a very long time.
