No matter how mundane or unbelievable it may be, every shelter cat has a story. Some are surrendered to the animal shelter by a previous human, while others are scooped up as strays. No matter how they find their way to places like Southern California’s Devore Animal Shelter, though, they’re just as deserving of a loving forever home.
Hearts have been breaking left and right ever since a sweet tabby cat named Jessica arrived at the shelter. The shy, confused cat had lost her home after her first human passed away, and she’s been waiting patiently in her kennel ever since.
Surely, the right person for Jessica is out there somewhere. They just need to find her to give her a new lease on life.

This poor cat looks so sad! I can’t imagine how she’s feeling after losing everything she’s known, but the good news is that she has a team of hopeful shelter friends looking out for her every day. She gets meals, cat toys, and as much affection as they can give her, but nothing would help her more than finding a forever home.
Viewers are having a field day leaving comments to help boost Jessica’s video, but this “pretty little tabby cat” will need more than a few TikTok messages to turn her life around. At only 1 year old, this gal’s whole life is ahead of her, and there’s no way she should spend it in a shelter.

That being said, the grieving process could be a long one for this poor girl. Not only did Jessica lose her person, but she also lost her home, her routine, and everything that helped her feel safe and loved. Any rescue cat may need time to decompress, adjust, and open up in their new home, but this shy sweetie may need extra patience.
Adopting a Shelter Cat
Adopting a cat can be as simple as visiting an animal shelter and falling in love, but the real work begins when you bring your new best friend home. Pet parents are encouraged to familiarise themselves with the 3-3-3 rule whenever they adopt a new pet, but this is only a guideline as to what to expect when you bring home your newest addition.
Some shelter cats need even more time than normal to get used to the idea of being in their new home. No matter how warm and welcoming their forever family may be, it’s totally normal for them to feel overwhelmed at first! You may even feel stressed out, too, but you can rest assured that you’ll both find your rhythm in no time.
