The idea of rescuing a dog may be all sunshine and rainbows, but the reality isn’t exactly a walk in the park. Sure, you’ll enjoy plenty of fun moments like, well, a walk in the park, but some days will be more difficult than others. Even though many rescue dogs arrive in their foster or forever homes more afraid than excited, it’s only a matter of time until they’re soaking up every moment of comfort and love.
Just ask Meadow! Saving South Texas Animal Rescue rescued this beautiful brindle-colored dog in late May, and although she’s never known the safety and love of a home, she’s learning more and more about being a pet instead of a stray dog.
On June 20, Meadow made her foster parents smile from ear to ear when she finally realized that she could be comfortable. After weeks of eyeing the comfy dog bed that her fosters bought just for her, she finally felt safe enough to lie down.
You’ll want to grab the tissues for this one!

Good girl, Meadow! Anyone can see just how badly she wanted to lie down on the comfy bed, and it was nearly heartbreaking to see the fear and nervousness the first few times she tried getting comfortable. Fortunately, this dog’s foster parents reassured her that she did nothing wrong, and she eventually felt ready to give it a try.
The way “her tail wagged when she knew it was OK” to lie down was a fan-favorite moment, but commenters also noticed that she showed the ultimate sign of trust directly after.
“So that leg lift is a whole different level,” another viewer wrote. “I have rescue dogs, and when they do this, I so appreciate the gravity of them doing it. It’s total trust.” You can say that again!
Dogs typically don’t sleep on their backs or with their legs spread like this unless they feel completely safe in their environment. This behavior dates all the way back to their undomesticated ancestors, so if a dog sleeps on their back with you, you can give yourself a pat on the back.
It’s so heartwarming to see Meadow feeling safe in her foster home, but it’s also magical to think of all the comfy moments to come in her brand-new bed!
