Usually, you hear about firefighters being called out to rescue cats that get stuck in trees. But for one Connecticut man, the old tale got a new twist, when firefighters were called out to save him from a chimney.
The incident happened at a park in Bristol, Conn., where a man had been visiting with his dog. While the story does have a happy ending, we’re sure it’s not one that this gentleman is going to want to relive anytime soon, especially when you find out how much the ordeal could end up costing him in the long run.
Emergency dispatchers were alerted to the incident June 22, when park employees were informed that a person appeared to be stuck in a chimney in one of the public bathroom areas. According to U.S. World News and Reports, the man had left his dog inside of one of the restrooms and then gone outside when the locks automatically engaged for the evening.
A representative from the park told the publication that there wasn’t actually too much known about the situation, and they weren’t exactly sure how the dog got left inside the bathroom, nor how long the man was stuck in the chimney to begin with.
“It is a bit of a crazy scenario,” Bristol Parks, Recreation, Youth and Community Services community engagement coordinator Erica Benoit explained. “Our parks staff is working with the police department and the fire department to make sure that doesn’t happen again. If he had just contacted police in the first place, we might have been able to avoid the situation.”
And what a situation indeed. In the end, the ordeal caused between $5,000-10,000 worth of damage. At least both he and his pup made it out okay.
