Bucky’s Porch is an animal sanctuary in Ohio that is home to many different types of animals. If you check out their videos, you’ll notice that these animals make themselves right at home inside of their human’s home, and it’s so cute to see all the surprise guests.
Bucky’s shared a video on Instagram at the end of June showing one of their resident deer hanging out in the family’s home. They left the doors open, and she came right inside to get some relief from the heat. Bucky’s says, “If you don’t wanna walk downstairs to find a deer in the living room like she owns the place, don’t leave the doors open.”
As someone who wouldn’t be used to finding a deer in my living room, this would be such a treat! She looks comfy, and she does look like she owns the place! People got a kick out of Bucky’s video and left some funny comments.
One commenter asked, “LOL! Is she chewing bubblegum, too?” @lucid_moment_in_time shared “I would absolutely share my house ha ha! She needs some snacks, too, to really feel at home.” Another viewer who lives in Ohio gets it, “Just too hot to do anything.” I agree! That ceiling fan was calling her name!

How Deer React to Heat
Just like us humans, most animals seek refuge in cooler spots when temperatures start to rise. Big Deer Blog explains that “temperatures above normal during summer causes some stress in deer.” During the summer deer need to drink more water, and if they can’t find it, they have physical reactions to the stress, “If water is limited by either quantity or quality, many of a deer’s bodily functions are limited, such as a buck transferring calcium to growing antlers, or a doe producing milk for fawns.” The article also notes that most deer can handle this stress just fine, unless there’s a prolonged drought in the area.
Another article explained, “Intense heat and humidity can push deer to seek refuge near water where the temperatures are even just a little lower. They will often spend much of their time bedded on the hottest days and nights to try and keep cool.”
So, Bucky’s deer was just trying to cool off like the rest of us experiencing above-average heat. She’s a smart girl!
