Why Cats Don’t Like Wearing Clothing
If you have a cat at home, chances are they’re not big fans of wearing any kind of clothing at all. Why? According to Veste for Pets, “Cats do not like clothing because it makes them feel confined. Putting clothes on them stresses them out, and they will immediately freeze, fall over, or run. If you have ever tried to hug your cat, you may have noticed they do not like that either.”
This makes sense since – for the most part – cats are not big fans of cuddling and when they do cuddle, it’s usually on their own terms.
If you have a cat at home that will occasionally let you dress them up, make sure to keep these safety tips from Veste in mind:
- Pick an outfit that is made for cats
- Get a soft sweater or light t-shirt that is not too tight
- Make sure there are no small parts or pieces that can come off and get swallowed
- Do not leave it on your cat for an extended period of time
If your feline is fine with wearing a sweater or similar item, make sure they do not overheat with it on. Symptoms include excessive panting, confusion, dry gums, lethargy, increased heart rate, and diarrhea or vomiting.
