There are so many animals who need a good home. As it stands, too many are abandoned or surrendered to shelters. When it comes to shelter animals, it’s always nice to read about a positive story, and the Martin County Humane Society (@mchumanesocietyin) in Indiana is giving us something to smile about.
A precious shelter cat named Captain has gone viral on TikTok, and he’s the reason so many people’s hearts are full of hope for animals without human families. Captain hasn’t had the easiest journey to say the least. Though after two months with the shelter staff, this cat was finally ready to embrace his softer side after finally feeling loved.
@mchumanesocietyin Captain came to us about two months ago after living a rough life as a stray. He wasn’t neutered and was constantly getting into fights with other cats, so much so that the person feeding him feared he wouldn’t survive another one. When he arrived, he was covered in wounds, especially on his underside, and had to be kept in a kennel on special litter while he healed. But this past week, Captain finally got his freedom. Now he can stretch out, explore, snuggle into cozy beds, and play with the other cats. And best of all, now that he’s neutered, no more fighting! He’s truly settling into his soft side. Captain is incredibly sweet. He still looks a little rough around the edges, but don’t let that fool you because he loves affection. When you pet him, he looks at you like, “Really? You want to love me?” and it just melts your heart. He purrs and kneads with joy, soaking up every bit of kindness. Captain could do well in a home with another calm cat and is so ready to leave the street life behind forever. 💫🧨 As part of our Adopt-a-Cat-a-Thon, his adoption fee is just $25 this week. Please consider opening your heart to Captain, he deserves to spend the rest of his life knowing what love truly feels like. 💙👉 Apply to meet or adopt Captain here: https://martincountyhumane.org #adoptacat #4thofJuly #animalshelter
Just looking at him you can tell that he’s been through so much! The @mchumanesocietyin’s TikTok post caption explained, “He wasn’t neutered and was constantly getting into fights with other cats, so much so that the person feeding him feared he wouldn’t survive another one. When he arrived, he was covered in wounds, especially on his underside, and had to be kept in a kennel on special litter while he healed.” Poor kitty!
In the video, Captain was able to have a bit more freedom to play around with the other cats and explore the shelter after healing. The humane society staff also went on to say, “Captain is incredibly sweet. He still looks a little rough around the edges, but don’t let that fool you because he loves affection. When you pet him, he looks at you like, ‘Really? You want to love me?’ And it just melts your heart. He purrs and kneads with joy, soaking up every bit of kindness.”

They’re goal was to find this little guy a loving family, and they’ve been documenting his journey on TikTok, hoping someone would take notice. As it turns out, plenty of people did, and thanks to some kind folks Captain’s adoption fee was waived.
So many were invested in helping Captain, especially the shelter staff, and they wanted him to feel loved every step of the way. Not only were they giving him attention and affection, but the person who brought him to the shelter made time to visit Captain, too. This cat is so loved!
On Thursday, @mchumanesocietyin let us all know that this newly famous feline has found a forever home. In less than two weeks since posting Captain’s story, he’s been adopted!
@mchumanesocietyin How do I say this….. We love you and will miss caring for you Captain!❤️
See what can happen when people come together! After everything Captain has gone through, he is going to receive all the love and care he needs. He truly deserves it!
