Few things in this world are as sweet as baby animals. Whether it’s their tiny size, their clumsiness, or their wholesome innocence that melts your heart first, it’s impossible to deny the hold baby animals have on the world.
Puppies and kittens are classically cute, but families of unique pets, like Shelby’s flock of baby turkeys, can give them a run for their money. On June 8, the bird owner shared the sweetest video of the turkey chicks ‘strutting’ for the very first time, and people have a lot to say. Between the baby birds‘ tiny size and the way they strut and pose like fully grown turkeys, it’s impossible not to fall under their spell!

What adorable baby birds! Even though turkeys grow to be 3 feet tall and 10-20 pounds when fully grown, these tiny turkeys are the same size as their duckling friends in the background. They can’t be more than a few days old!

Several commenters like Bunny admitted, “I’ve never seen a baby turkey!” They almost look like baby chickens at this age. If you look closely, however, you’ll see that they’re rounder than their chicken friends, and their tiny ‘snoods,’ AKA the flap of skin that hangs from the face, look like tiny unicorn horns.
It’s heartwarming to see these little turkeys coexisting with ducklings at such a young age, even though it seems like they couldn’t care less about one another. That’s one way to raise unbothered, resilient birds!
What is Turkey Strutting?
There’s no doubt that these babies are oh-so-cute while strutting their stuff, but what exactly is a turkey strut? It’s more than a stylish and confident walk! In reality, ‘strutting’ is the name for the display behavior that turkeys do as adults. It’s most commonly used to attract mates or show dominance over other adult turkeys, but it may also be used in response to a predator or threat.
When a turkey struts, they show off all of their tail feathers by fanning them out majestically. Birds will also lower their wings to appear larger, like we saw in this video, or lower their head and neck into an elongated ‘S’ shape.
Who knew that a mating and dominance behavior could be so adorable? These tiny turkey babies are stealing hearts with every strut, and we don’t think it will ever get old.
