Cows are pretty much dogs. Do they bark? No. Do they look like our four-legged companions? Not particularly. But do they pretty much have the same exact vibe? Yeah.
Many cows, baby cows in particular, give off unmistakable canine energy. They are pretty much the puppies of the pasture.
With that in mind, is it really any surprise that an adorable baby cow would want to be friends with an adorable dog, like a Golden Retriever?
We didn’t think so. And as this precious video shows, this gorgeous baby cow and this affable Golden Retriever are just a couple of peas in a pod.
Just look at how loving, pure, and affectionate the bond between these two is! That cow just won’t stop licking their Golden Retriever bestie. This just goes to show how both cows and dogs have a similar need to give and receive love.
This is also the kind of cuteness that award-winning children’s storybooks are made of, as well as more than a few Pixar and Disney films. There is absolutely no question about it; both of these animals are incredibly sensitive beings.

Now, the dog is deftly more subdued in this clip. But that doesn’t mean they aren’t enjoying their bovine best friend’s precious, loving licks.
Dogs are incredibly empathetic creatures and have an amazing ability to adjust to and accommodate the needs of those around them.
As such, we think it’s likely that this dog wants their best friend to lick them because they know that it will make them happy.
Can Canines and Bovines Really Be Best Friends?
Not to kill the suspense here, but yes! Cows and dogs can absolutely be friends, sometimes forming very deep bonds with each other.
While cows and dogs will not always become best friends, sometimes, when they share environments and have compatible personalities, they can develop very affectionate relationships with each other.
Animal sanctuary and farm workers have reported witnessing dogs and cows bonding with each other. This will often take the form of them grooming each other, which, as you might’ve guessed from this video, involves a cow licking a dog.
In addition to that sign of affection, these animals will sometimes even display protective behaviors for each other.
All that is to say that cows and dogs have complex emotional lives that allow them to form deep, affectionate bonds with each other, just like the baby cow and Golden Retriever in this video.
