Two seats, lots of power and a desire for the 1960s. These are the key elements of the Automobili Mignatta Rina, a super sports berlinetta with classic lines that uses the most modern construction technologies and, in the manufacturer’s intentions, encapsulates the best of Made in Italy cars. Its name comes from the abbreviation of “Caterina,” the grandmother of AM’s founder, and its iconic design conceals a carbon fiber monocoque and mechanics animated by a 5-liter naturally aspirated V8 engine. A technical recipe that enhances the connection between vehicle and driver. The car is hand-built and customizable down to the smallest details: it will be made at Valfenera d’Asti (Piedmont, Italy), in an annual run limited to just 30 units.
“Rina is a journey in design and emotion, a tribute to the Italian sports cars of yesteryear, from which it takes its sinuous and soft curves accompanied by taut lines. Every detail is designed to express purity and synthesis, without frills, just like the sports cars of the 1960s. The result is a timeless beauty, where every feature is functional and the form is the real protagonist,” Davide Dessì, chief designer of Rina. The car enjoys the lightness of carbon fiber reinforced with aramid fiber (Kevlar), to resist small impacts, used to shape a car body that pays homage to the excellence of Piedmontese manufacturing. Elegance and purity of form are the conceptual architraves of its typically Italian style. Long hood, powerful fenders and elusive tail volume: Rina boasts sensual lines that seem to caress the air and cleave it at the same time.
Rina’s front end is characterized by an elliptical grille. From here, the car’s nose immediately goes wide, defined by sculptural ribs that give the whole a harmonious visual force. On the side, a wraparound line defines the wheel arches and fender, uniting them into a single line that gradually fades away: this element gives the car muscularity and makes it look well-placed and determined to devour the road. The hood virtually extends over the dashboard and transmission tunnel, reaching all the way to the rear trunk, creating formal continuity between body and cabin. A visual alchemy of form and function. Rina’s rear is visually framed by the protrusion of the rear spoiler, while a low back accentuates the three-dimensionality of the elements, giving the rear a strong but refined presence. Rina’s design is ennobled by details such as flush hinges on the hoods and rims that are inspired by typical 1960s wheel styles.
Rina’s cockpit is essential, devoid of screens and infotainment. Every detail is taken care of to make the driving experience unique, pure and instinctive, and put the driver at the center of it all. A suspended, elliptical instrument cluster appears on the dashboard head, with the tachometer in a central position, flanked by fuel level, water temperature, oil temperature and oil pressure gauges. These instruments benefit from deep aluminum bezels, a material that accentuates their three-dimensionality and makes all information immediately legible. The speedometer, on the other hand, is located on the center console.
