When it comes to ‘animals to stay far away from,’ bears are at the top of the list. These massive predators can cause severe injuries with just the swipe of a paw! Although they’d rather stay far away from humans, there have been enough bear attacks in recent history to warrant extra precautions like bear spray and using the buddy system.
Even though humans and bears aren’t exactly BFFs, these formidable beasts sometimes befriend other animals. Lucky officials at the Altadena Sheriff’s Station in Southern California learned this firsthand when they spotted a black bear going for a leisurely midnight stroll with a coyote friend on June 26.
The two were unbothered as can be, even once they were spotted, but their presence means so much more to Altadena locals after the devastating fires earlier this year.
OMG, they really were just hanging out together! I would have been worried that the bear might be hunting the wild coyote due to their massive size difference, but they both seem as relaxed as can be.
It’s no wonder viewers are comparing them to Robin Hood and Little John from the Disney adaptation of the fairy tale! Robin Hood was technically depicted as a red fox, not a coyote, but these two have a mischievous yet wholesome bond that matches the characters perfectly.
“That bear is massive!” one commenter noticed. The biggest California black bears can grow to a whopping 500 pounds or larger, but the unbothered coyote couldn’t care less about how large his friend is.
Others speculated that these unlikely animal friends may have formed a bond after the devastating Eaton fire. As another commenter wrote, “After the LA fires, a lot of animals lost their families and packs, so they have been adopting each other. It’s very sweet indeed and should teach us humans to coexist.”
Whatever led to this adorable animal interaction. It’s such a gift to witness these furry friends in their natural habitat.
