From a Newfie befriending a teeny tiny toad to a Great Dane romping around the snow with a mini horse, there is nothing more adorable than unlikely animal friendships. These animals serve as proof that connection sometimes only requires giving one another a chance, even if the idea of a friendship might feel unrealistic. Love always defies the odds!
Take a Pomeranian named Flash and a pigeon named Screech, for example. The two have formed an unusual but strong bond in Minnepolis, Minnesota, much to the delight and comfort of Glenda Spindler, a local mother.
According to CBS affiliate WCCO, Spindler, her daughter and Flash first crossed paths with Screech in the fall of 2024 when the pigeon was just a baby. As Screech grew up, his friendship with Flash grew stronger and stronger.

Sadly, in February 2025, Spindler’s daughter passed away. Still grieving the loss, Spindler has found great solace in the friendship between Screech and Flash, especially because the animals’ connection is one her daughter loved.
“I think it came at the right time because I got to see how deeply she fell in love with the pigeon,” Spindler told WCCO.
When Screech and Flash’s friendship began in fall 2024, Spindler said Flash’s bond to the pigeon began immediately.
“He constantly checked on that baby,” Spindler told WCCO. “They had a bond.”
In the clips from WCCO, it is evident how much Screech and Flash love one another, prancing around each other playfully, not a care in the world. It is clear why the two bring so much joy and comfort to Spindler, especially when she needs those things the most.
