Anyone who enjoys farm animal videos on TikTok has likely come across Knuckle Bump Farms and their band of famous furry and feathered friends. Emmanuel the Emu rose to stardom for his playful antics (and pestering his rescuer), but more recently, another pair of unique emus has stolen the spotlight.
Earlier this year, the farm heard about and rescued a pair of one-of-a-kind baby emus who were born with no feathers on their bodies. True, all baby birds sport different feathers than the ones that grow in as adults, but these twins have developed none at all.
Viewers have been asking left and right for an update on the special emu chicks, and on June 26, the farm finally obliged. They looked strange, to say the least, as bald baby birds, but now they look more like dinosaurs than anything else!
@knucklebumpfarms Lots of you have been asking for an update on our bald emus, well, they’re are much taller and still very bald 😅 #baldemu
OMG! That young emu hardly looks like a bird at all! It’s such a surprise to see that striped pattern on their skin since it’s always covered by feathers, but these special siblings have no idea they’re any different.
“Where are its clothes?” one commenter asked. That’s a good question! There’s no doubt that these bald birds would benefit from a sweater during the cold winter months, but now that has me thinking. Do they need sunscreen, too?

This commenter wasn’t the only person who had a field day with the rare birds‘ unique look. One viewer asked, “Why is it cotton candy flavored?” while another couldn’t get over “the little wing fingers.” Everything about these birds is unusual!
Normally, emus have large feathered wings that are still too small to help them fly, but beneath those feathers are these tiny ‘fingers.’ Who knew?
@knucklebumpfarms The most interesting man in the world. #baldemu #littlefoot
Wow, just look at them! It’s almost impossible to wrap my brain around these birds being the same as the feathered emus in their pen, but sure enough, they’re the same species.
The rare genetic mutations give people a lot to look at, but they also give people a lot to consider. One commenter said, “Dinosaurs definitely did not go extinct. That’s an interesting-looking.” He could really be onto something!
It will be so exciting to see how these special baby birds continue to grow, though hopefully we don’t have to wait as long for the next adorable update!
