Summer is in full swing, and that means that all kinds of fluffy animal cuteness and fun are headed our way! Just look at Drake, the Golden Retriever, the “self-taught genius” of “clamming.”
Not only does he have the pawfect clam-catching routine, but he also knows how to maximize his summertime fun, as this adorable video shows.
First, Drake starts things off by hilariously “barking at his humans” because the tide isn’t low enough for him to go clamming yet. Once he’s done that, in the tide is a little bit lower, he gets into the water to scope out potential clamming spots.
He’s a very methodical dog, too. He really takes his time feeling around for the right spot and isn’t satisfied until he knows for sure that he has found it. And he just looks so cute doing this!
The way he stands on his hind legs, with a quizzical look on his face, like, “Why can’t I find the right spot yet?” Gives off total human vibes, and it’s just too adorable for words!

Then, after he has settled on a spot, he dives into the water to retrieve his clam. While his first few attempts at retrieving a clam don’t go as planned, Drake does not lose heart.
He is a very tenacious Golden Retriever, and he doesn’t give up until he has retrieved a clam that he is satisfied with.
Once he has found his clam, he swings it to shore and breaks it open to enjoy a tasty meal. However, a canine friend swings by to see what Drake is up to and ends up sneaking off with part of Drake’s clam.
But no matter even with half a clam, this Golden Retriever is still a very happy camper!
As this other video shows, clams are not the only things that Drake has caught. He is also quite competent as a crab catcher.
He was able to spot and catch this crab very quickly, which is pretty impressive. But this crab was not a fan of being caught and started pinching Drake’s nose in retaliation.
However, Drake remained undeterred. As soon as he brought the crab to the dock, he went back into the water to find another. Later, when he checked on his crab, they had a bit of a standoff.
And Drake decided that he liked the crab so much that he wanted to catch another!
