
Whether you’re a loving cat mom or a devoted dog dad, keeping your fur babies safe is all part of the job. As of early Monday, June 23, 2025, the National Weather Service (NWS) issues an important pet warning across 29 states in the United States.
Here’s everything you need to know about this pet warning, including the states impacted and how to keep your pets safe and happy.
What Is The Pet Warning?
The NWS issued extreme heat warnings across various states. “Do not leave young children and pets in unattended vehicles. Car interiors will reach lethal temperatures in a matter of minutes,” advised the NWS.

What States Are Impacted?
The following states have extreme heat warnings in effect as of Monday morning on June 23, 2025:
- Connecticut
- Delaware
- Illinois
- Indiana
- Maryland
- Massachusetts
- Michigan
- Missouri
- New Hampshire
- New Jersey
- New York
- North Carolina
- Ohio
- Rhode Island
- Vermont
- Virginia
- West Virginia
“An Extreme Heat Warning means that the combination of heat and humidity is expected to make it feel like it is 105 degrees or greater. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside” the NWS said.
In other states, the NWS has issued heat advisories which are less severe than heat warnings and account for “dangerous heat conditions that are not expected to reach warning criteria.” Such states impacted by this criteria include:

How to Stay Safe
“Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors,” recommends the NWS.
