If you’ve ever lost a pet or had one run away, you know how stressful it can be trying to find them again. Good News Dog shared a video of a Pit Bull named Cali, who was missing from her family for four months, being reunited with them. It’s the instant serotonin boost that you didn’t know you needed!
The video starts with Cali cautiously approaching her mom. It takes her a minute to realize what’s going on, but when she does, she has the best reaction! Her big tail wags and wiggles are the best. Make sure your sound is on so you can hear her barks of excitement!
Cali is one happy pooch! Good News Dog said in the video’s caption, “Got me smiling and crying at my phone right now,” and we did the same!
Commenters had a lot to say about the heartwarming video. Commenter @michelle_marn shared, “It’s amazing how they just take a moment to realize, then it all comes back to them!” @hennybeeee_ shared, “She was like, wait a minute. Could it be? Is it you? It is! True happiness and joy! Such a beautiful moment.” @Angiebat agreed, “The nose always remembers!” @mr_sam_21 added, “I thought the baby was going to explode from pure happiness!!!”

Do Dogs Remember Their Humans After Months Apart?
Commenter @emmaraudie explained @Cali’s delayed reaction and excited tail wags, “Dogs ‘shake it off’ as a response to stress, anxiety, or excitement, much like humans might take a deep breath or shrug. This behavior is a way for them to release pent-up energy and return to a more relaxed state. It can happen after stressful interactions with other dogs, during or after playtime, or after a vet visit. This sweet girl is doing it like every other tail wag! She was so stressed and SO RELIEVED that you both are there. This made me cry!”
Dr. Jess at Vet Explains Pets shared that dogs definitely remember their humans, even after long periods of separation. “Dogs have a keen sense of smell and memory, which allows them to remember their owners even after being apart for a month. They may show signs of excitement and joy when reunited with their owner, as they recognize their scent and voice.”
The same article explains, “Dogs have an incredible sense of smell, which allows them to recognize familiar scents, including their owner’s scent. While a dog may not immediately recognize their owner after being apart for a month, they will likely remember them once they are reunited and their scent triggers their memory.”
It took Cali a minute to process it all, but it was clear that she definitely recognized her humans and was beyond excited to see them!
