Families come in many shapes and sizes. They can even be chosen! That’s exactly what happens whenever someone adopts a pet, and, as many pet parents know firsthand, adding a furry friend to the family is often one of the best choices they ever make.
Existing pets don’t usually get a say in whether their family adopts an additional animal, but they certainly influence the decision. Just ask Casper the Maine Coon cat! This big boy may be large and in charge, but he also has a gentle soul that makes him the perfect ‘stepfather’ to foster kittens like the orphaned orange kitten his family began fostering in late June.

Isn’t this so sweet? Even though Casper is neither a parent nor a female, he certainly has his fair share of nurturing instincts. Clearly, this gentle giant cat was raised on nothing but gentleness and love!
“He’s not a stepdad,” one commenter began, “he’s a dad who stepped up.” You can say that again! Not only was he woken up mid-nap, which would leave many cats feeling grumpy, but he didn’t skip a beat when the orange kitten was placed by his side.
Commenters found it both adorable and hilarious that Casper immediately gave the foster baby a bath. I guess his hygiene wasn’t up to par! Luckily, this feline father knows exactly what to do, and the little one will be spic and span in no time.
Casper’s cleanliness reminded some viewers of an iconic character and scene from Finding Nemo. Do you remember the cleaner shrimp named Jaques and his famous one-word line?
“Jacques! Clean him.” “Oui.” Iconic!
Maine Coon Cats
Every adult cat will look large next to a tiny kitten like this foster baby, but Maine Coons are the largest domestic cats. They can grow over 30 inches long from nose to tail! These big cats and their luxurious fur coats were bred to thrive in cold winters, although nowadays they’re better at being pampered and spoiled than surviving in harsh environments.
With their huge bodies, their pointed facial features, and their fluffy tails, it’s easy to see why Maine Coons are so beloved. They are such majestic cats! As Casper proved, though, they’re also sweet, nurturing, and loving gentle giants.
