Throughout June, AKA Pride month, Pride parades and events are popping up across the nation. These events are the perfect opportunities to celebrate the LGBT community and love of all kinds, though a lucky crowd in Spokane, Washington, also got to celebrate a very special guest.
Meet Selkirk! This unbothered orange cat is no stranger to adventure or attention, but his appearance at the Pride parade was a brand-new experience for both him and his parents. Unsurprisingly, his presence ended up being the highlight of the entire day!
Neither Selkirk, his parents, nor his doting fans expected this sweet June 14 appearance to turn into a viral moment, but after many videos and multiple POVs, this unbothered cat is skyrocketing to fame!
@selkirk.the.cat Didn’t know the cat would be more popular than the fire truck #firefighters #pride #catsoftiktok
Was this parade actually for Selkirk? Because that’s sure what it looks like! Everyone is losing their minds over the feline in the fire engine, and it’s easy to see why.
“Cats are meant to be worshipped,” one commenter wrote. “Look at the non-reaction.” He is the definition of an unbothered king!

Even though this is Selkirk’s first time as an LGBT icon, he’s used to seeing the world from the safety of his dad’s arms. This cat has ridden on planes, adventured on boats, and even hiked in the mountains.
But what brought him to Spokane Pride? As the cat’s dad explained in a popular Reddit post, it was a last-minute surprise!
“My wife is a firefighter,” he began. “She was working a shift trade and ended up at the station that went to the parade. She asked if I wanted to join. I was worried about bringing Selkirk because he doesn’t love the sound of air brakes or big trucks. I nearly left him at home, but he woke up from his new favourite napping place 5 minutes before I was due to be picked up. So I grabbed the cat bag, tossed his feline harness on him, and the rest is history.”
That’s incredible! After the success of Selkirk’s first parade appearance, his dad announced that they’d be riding in Missoula, Montana’s Pride Parade on Saturday, June 21. It’s safe to say there will be even more fire engine feline videos to come!
