Sometimes, slow motion is necessary. For example, if a senior Pug is trying a hot dog for the first time, the only appropriate way to capture the majestic experience of their “chewing” is in slow motion.
A simple still photo or a regular 24 frames per second video simply will not do this moment justice. It has to be slow-motion. There’s simply no other way to savor this dog’s epic expressions otherwise.

As this video shows, there is a lot to process here. This adorable senior Pug, who goes by the name of Ollie, is taking on a monumental task here. He is attempting to eat multiple hot dog slices at once.

Alexander the Great once set out to spread his empire across the known world, Neil Armstrong went into space to become the first man to set foot on the moon, and now Ollie the senior Pug is attempting to eat multiple pieces of hot dog at once.
This is the height of epic ambition, LOL!
And try as he might, this little guy munches and munches on these hot dog pieces, but is seemingly unable to ever actually chew any of them. Why is that?
Why Dogs Don’t Chew
Unlike humans, dogs do not thoroughly chew their food before eating it. They have a unique way of eating that they do through tearing and gulping their food.
This interesting behavior stems from their wild ancestors, who had to eat very quickly because the competition for food was so fierce.
Additionally, some brachycephalic dog breeds, such as Boston Terriers or Pugs, like the one in this video, will often have difficulty chewing their food because of their facial structures.
This is very different from dog breeds with elongated snouts, like German Shepherds or Golden Retrievers, who have very strong jaws, which make them powerful chewers. Chewing toys and exercises can also be a form of enrichment for our canine companions.
While we are not sure if attempting to chew on multiple pieces of hot dog at once can be considered canine enrichment, we are pretty sure that Ollie enjoyed taking on this monumental challenge.
