Over the last several years, advances in pet medicine have resulted in more animals being diagnosed with complex medical issues. Social media has opened our eyes to many of these four-legged friends, as well as some amazing non-profit organizations that help them every day.
We were recently introduced to Wally, a newly rescued stray, who has a rare medical diagnosis, especially for a dog. This pup has narcolepsy, and just as it does in humans, the disease causes Wally to fall asleep at any time, particularly when presented with toys and treats.
Wally was rescued from a Walmart parking lot—hence his name! His rescuers quickly realized that there was something wrong with him. One minute, he would be awake, and then the next, he wasn’t. They took him to a veterinary clinic, and after some testing and evaluations, he was diagnosed with narcolepsy.
In the video shared by the 15/10 Foundation, we formally meet Wally, a new resident of the Humane Society in Austin, Texas. The vet tech is holding a treat and asks, “Do you want some chicken?”
We can tell from the way his tail is wagging that he is excited about the snack. Unfortunately, he starts to waver, and the tech says, “Oh, you’re already falling asleep.” Poor Wally then begins to lower himself to the ground, but not before one final—and successful—attempt to retrieve the chicken!

Thankfully, the next clip shows Wally getting some big pets and love from the veterinary staff, and we can tell he is well-loved and in good hands.
The 15/10 Foundation works with shelter animals and prospective adopters to ensure quality of life. Their generous donors allow them to pay for Wally’s ongoing medical needs even after he joins his forever home!
Many followers of the 15/10 Foundation had encouraging words and funny comments to share, including:
“Honestly, I get it! I also get excited about chicken nuggets, LOL!”
“Oh, this is me at 3am, fighting my sleep while snacking & watching Netflix! Love you, Wally!”
“Bless him! Somewhere in his ancestry there’s a fainting goat!”
All silliness aside, Wally is being well cared for by the Humane Society in Austin, Texas, and already has his new adoptive family lined up and waiting for him!
