Many people enjoy putting up bird feeders in their backyards. Hummingbird feeders are some particularly popular ones.
And sometimes, these hummingbird feeders will attract the attention of incredibly rare species, like the hummingbear.
As you can see, this incredibly rare species is a very large, yet tranquil creature that enjoys eating out of feeders on sliding glass doors.
They also possess voracious appetites. Notice how this massive yet dainty creature is very careful to get every bit of food out of this hummingbird feeder. They really licked that thing clean!

The hummingbear is also a creature that appreciates the finer things in life. Notice how this humble being takes a moment to sniff the flowers just before they leave the back deck.
Quite comically, the human in this video did not intend for the hummingbear to snack from her hummingbird feeder and opened her back door to tell this 300-pound creature to “get.”
Black Bears and Backyard Safety
In all seriousness, what should someone do if they see a black bear in their backyard?
Even though black bears are less aggressive than other bear species, they can still be very dangerous animals. Considering that they can weigh up to 700 pounds, these are not creatures that you want to get on the wrong side of.
For someone who wants to attract birds to their backyard without attracting black bears, they might want to consider alternatives to bird feeders. After all, black bears, like any other animal, want food, and bird feeders are an easy food source.
That’s why water fountains or birdbaths can be great alternatives for attracting birds to the backyard without also summoning black bears. Additionally, it is important to note that black bears love the fruit. So, fruit trees can also attract them to backyards.
It’s also a good idea to keep backyards clean. Just like when you are camping, any food that is left out can potentially attract black bears.
However, if you do encounter a black bear in your backyard, it is never a good idea to approach the bear. As such, we would not recommend that someone open their door to yell “get” at a black bear that is leaving their backyard.
