Most people don’t get the chance to see baby kangaroos with their own eyes, but that’s usually a good thing. Mama kangaroos keep their babies, or joeys, safe in their pouches until 6 to 8 months of age, when the young ones begin exploring little by little. They don’t leave the pouch for good until closer to a year old, but a special little joey named JJ is already facing the big world from outside of a pouch.
Melbourne, Australia’s Wild Action Zoo helps care and advocate for a number of native Australian animal species, but their TikTok fans instantly fell head over heels for JJ the baby kangaroo after they introduced her in late May.
She’s positively irresistible! By the time the Australian zoo showed her off again in a June 16 update video, she had grown even cuter. How is that even possible?

Just look at her! How could anyone not fall under her spell? Those big eyes and long lashes are making people seethe with jealousy, but if you ask me, it’s her long, tiny claws that have me hooked.
“What a privilege to be able to care for a little one like this,” one commenter gushed. “To make it feel safe and ready to venture out into the world.” It’s an honor to even write about animals like JJ the kangaroo joey, so I can only imagine how rewarding it is to raise and rehabilitate the creatures who need it most.

Although the zoo hasn’t given much background about this little one, it’s safe to assume that she’s an orphan. Normally, kangaroo babies would get milk from their mothers, but she’s being fed and cared for by head zookeeper Chris Humfrey instead.
Only a few days before this priceless update was posted, JJ reached an amazing milestone: taking her very first steps!

Go, JJ, go! Finding her balance is the very first step toward her independence, and that means Chris is doing a wonderful job. She’s growing up beautifully, learning all of the skills she’ll need as a full-grown kangaroo.
It’s only a matter of time until this little one is hopping all over the zoo, but until then, her wobbly first steps have everyone smiling from ear to ear!
