FIA Rally Star Romet Jürgenson gears up for dream WRC2 homecoming at Rally Estonia
Fresh from a standout fifth-place finish at Rally Italia Sardegna and another solid showing at the Ardeca Ypres Rally, FIA Rally Star Romet Jürgenson and co-driver Siim Oja are ready to chase another big result, this time on home soil, at Rally Estonia, round eight of the 2025 FIA World Rally Championship.
Jürgenson has enjoyed a breakthrough WRC2 campaign in recent months, showing clear signs of progress in both pace and consistency. Reflecting on his performance in Sardinia, the 25-year-old said: “It was a big step forward. We were definitely more competitive overall, we’ve improved our rally craft, which allowed us to push harder, be more consistent, and reduce our split times. That’s a really encouraging sign.”
Now, the young Estonian gets ready to tackle Rally Estonia’s famously fast gravel stages for the first time in Rally2 machinery, and the excitement is evident: “I’m heading into this event with adrenaline and excitement. Honestly, it’s a dream come true to compete here. It feels really special. I think the support from the Estonian fans will definitely give us some extra speed.”
Rally Estonia is known for its high-speed gravel roads, where flat-out pace is often rewarded more than cautious strategy, a challenge Jürgenson is embracing: “This event is all about performance. You need consistent speed to get a good result. My goal is to be consistently quick throughout the weekend.”
While he knows consistency will be key, Jurgenson is realistic about the challenge ahead. “Obviously, it’s my first year in WRC2, so I have to be smart,” he said. “You can’t go flat out everywhere. The plan is to pick the stages I know well, where I feel confident, and push a bit more there. Hopefully that helps me find some extra speed and close the gaps.”
With confidence building and local knowledge on his side, Jürgenson believes a strong result is within reach adding: “If we play our cards right, push on the stages we know, and execute everything properly, a top six finish is definitely possible.”
However, the competition will be intense. The WRC2 entry list features several experienced Estonian and Finnish drivers, many of whom excelled during last year’s ERC round. As Jürgenson explained “The competition will be tough. A lot of drivers know these roads well and have already proven their pace here in previous years. But we’ve got good momentum, and the goal is to carry that into Estonia.”
That local experience could offer the Rally Star Duo a key advantage over many of their competitors, with the pair having driven many of the stages over previous years, as Jürgenson explains. “I’ve driven these stages over the past two years and already have solid pace notes. We know where to push and where to back off. I’ve also been reviewing old onboards to learn from previous mistakes. That preparation gives us a real advantage.”
FIA Rally Star Project Leader Jérôme Roussel, said: “Rally Estonia is a big milestone for Romet and Siim, not just because it’s their home event, but because it gives them a real chance to show the progress they’ve made on familiar ground. Their performance and maturity have been steadily improving throughout the year, and this event is another chance to build on that.
Estonia presents a unique challenge. It’s an event all about sustained pace, unlike Sardinia and Portugal, where mechanical preservation played a bigger role. If they can achieve consistent speed here, it will be another major step forward in their development.”
Rally Estonia takes place 17–20 July 2025, featuring 20 special stages and 308 kilometres of competitive action across some of the fastest gravel roads on the WRC calendar.
