The Florida Panthers acquired Brad Marchand at the trade deadline for his veteran savvy and playoff goals, and it paid off as he scored the winner in double OT to even up the series with the Edmonton Oilers. For Marchand, it was his second of the night as he added a shorthanded goal in the second period, with Anton Lundell assisting on both. Sam Bennett scored his NHL-record 12th goal on the road this postseason, and moves up to fifth in the Conn Smythe Trophy ranks.
The Oilers had a 3-2 lead after a busy first period that saw five goals scored, including a power-play tally by Game 1 hero Leon Draisaitl, but were trailing entering the third. Corey Perry scored his eighth goal of the postseason with 18 seconds remaining in regulation to send the game to overtime.
The series heads back to Florida for a crucial pair of games on Monday and Thursday.
