Kylian Mbappé‘s spectacular bicycle kick was among three goals in second-half stoppage time, and Real Madrid beat Borussia Dortmund 3-2 in the Club World Cup quarterfinals Saturday to set up a semifinal against Paris Saint-Germain.
Dortmund’s Maximilian Beier scored three minutes into stoppage time and Mbappé, who entered in the 67th, restored a two-goal lead with his stunning effort one minute later.
Serhou Guirassy converted a penalty kick in the eighth minute of added time after he was fouled by Dean Huijsen, who received a red card and will miss the semifinals.
In a dramatic finale, Madrid goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois used his fingertips to palm away Marcel Sabitzer‘s shot for a potential tying goal on the game’s final play.
Real Madrid will now turn their attention to Mbappe’s former club PSG, who defeated Bayern Munich 2-0 to book their place in the semifinals. The winners of that match will face either Fluminense or Chelsea in the final.
“We were doing really well and the match looked under control but then in the last 10 minutes things got crazy,” Real Madrid manager Xabi Alonso told DAZN.
“We have lost a little bit our focus and intensity when we didn’t have the ball and luckily nothing else happened. But overall we have had good 80 minutes and the last 10 minutes to improve.”

Gonzalo García, a 21-year-old who made only five Spanish league appearances in the past two seasons, was given the start by new Real Madrid coach Xabi Alonso over Mbappé, still regaining fitness after acute gastroenteritis.
