Even if you’re an allergy sufferer like me, it’s impossible to deny how beautiful and uplifting springtime can be. Longer hours of sunlight make it the perfect time of year to go outside, and sprouting plants make the landscape greener than ever. What’s not to love?
There’s a lot to enjoy about spring, but the baby animals exploring the world for the very first time are undeniably the best part. An unexpected baby deer sighting can feel like pure magic, after all, but one lucky chicken owner feels the same magic whenever she looks at her fluffy feathered friends.
The self-proclaimed ‘Chicken Lady’ lives in the English countryside with her flock, which includes Puffin the hen and her brand new brood. Puffin is a great mom to her baby chicks (there are at least ten of them!), but it’s almost uncanny how identical she looks to them all.
They’re a family of golden fluff balls!
@theflooflady A golden puddle of Puffinettes 🥰 Puffin the Orpington is still caring for her chicks. They are just over 4 weeks old and fully feathered. They no longer need Puffin to keep themselves warm, but they are still a tight-knit family group. We expect that Puffin will make the Puffinettes independent within the next 4 weeks and return to the main coop. If the weather remains warm, it will be earlier in that time period, but if it turns cooler, it will be later. #chicksandhens #hensandchicks #broodyhen #broodywatch #cute #cutechicks #chickenbreeder #chickenbreeding #happyhens #thegoodlife #freerangechickens #gardenhens #gardenchickens #smallholding #smallholder #homesteadlife #homesteadchickens #homesteading #bufforpington #bufforpingtons #backyardpoultry
Aren’t they too cute? These fluffy baby birds look so round and perfect that I doubted they were real at first! But sure enough, Puffin laid her eggs, brooded on her nest, and is now raiding the cutest mini-mes of all time.
“She really copied and pasted herself,” one commenter agreed. It’s almost like no rooster was involved! Birds can’t self-replicate, though, so Puffin just has very strong genetics.

Puffin and her chicks, whom The Chicken Lady is calling ‘Puffinettes,’ are Orpington chickens. These birds have a thick layer of feathers to protect them against cold temperatures, though they look adorable, too. Orpingtons are known for being social and friendly, which is just one reason why this chicken owner has such a great relationship with her flock.
I never realized how fast baby birds grow until I saw an update from the very same chicks just one week later. They doubled in size!
@theflooflady The Puffinettes (Puffin the Orpington’s chicks) are getting bigger and are definitely very independent during the day. This is their current favourite toy, the Omlet Freestanding Perch. OMG, look how big they are! They’re already learning how to use their wings to glide, and it won’t be long now until they’re ready to start independent lives of their own. They already do their own thing during the day, but it’s still bittersweet seeing just how quickly the adorable chick stages go by.
They grow up so fast, but Puffin must be so proud!
